Recommended: Timex Ironman Triathlon

One of the few competitors that stands up to the Casio G-Shock in the rugged digital niche, the Timex Ironman has accrued a cult following and a 30-year history of its own, offering unbeatable legibility and straightforward functionality.

Our writer, Brett, reviewed this one in 2023, and we also included it in our best cheap watches roundup, as in many ways, it provides the majority of G-Shock performance for a lower price and in a more compact package; at 42mm wide, it’s viable for a lot of wrists, though does remain chunky, at 15mm.

Brett has worn Timex Ironman watches since the 1990s. He reckons this Ironman Triathlon version is the perfect sidekick for those into sports and recreation (it has super-easy running timer support, too), even boasting a powerful indiglo backlight for late-night escapades.
