Is this the Casio killer we’ve been waiting for?

For a tough, daily dive-style beater watch, how does $50 sound?

Having been a runner through the 1990’s I can say on good authority that the Ironman line always delivers.

I’ve filtered through all the junk and cherry-picked the best value watches under £50, the diamonds in the rough that you won’t regret buying and that will still remain affordable if prices keep rising.

This is the W-86. You've probably never heard of it but it's basically an F-91 that's better in every way but one...or maybe two.

I was immediately excited when I stumbled upon one of their latest releases that appeared to offer this nostalgic styling whilst foregoing the typical square shape.

So straight away, you can see this bears a striking resemblance to the likes of the Casio A168, both in terms of sizing and design. This Timex T78587 has the same style of high-shine resin case, with a darker inner portion and a digital display at the very centre.

The model I have here is the 38mm Weekender, with an 8.9mm depth and a 45.6mm lug to lug. This suits my slim 6.25 inch very nicely, though they do make several other versions of this watch.

You see, there are precisely a billion of these small Casio digital watches out there and while the F91W is the most popular, there are many more modern alternatives that look just like it.

When browsing Amazon (as part of our recent collaboration), something slightly unexpected cropped up. A great-looking Casio that appeared to have a 6mm thickness. Surely, this has to be a typo?

I’d seen a full blackout retro-look Casio on the site a few months ago and had it sitting on my Amazon wish list. Therefore, I couldn’t help but make that my very first choice.
